America’s favorite holiday — the Fourth of July — is coming up soon!
In past years, thousands of people would have hit the roads for the beach, a huge family reunion or crowded fireworks displays. While the coronavirus has halted a lot of those plans, you can still have fun with a Fourth of July staycation!
Here are some ideas that are inexpensive and will make this Fourth of July special from your home base:
Hit the pool. A lot of our community’s pools are opening up. Check in with your local pool, because you might have to make a reservation and maintain some social distancing, but that cool, welcoming water may be just what you need this weekend! The forecast right now is calling for temperatures in the upper 80s near our branches!
BBQ at home. No need to go somewhere special to have a great BBQ! Whether you’re grilling hot dogs and hamburgers, chicken or ribs, be sure to pick up some buns, sides and sodas! Here are a few ways to save at the grocery store:
- Stick to the outside aisles as much as you can! Fresh produce can go a long way and you can customize that potato salad any way you want!
- Download your grocery store's mobile app for special online deals.
- Be sure to check your grocery store's circular or coupons from the newspaper.
Watch a movie. While we’re waiting for our local movie theaters to reopen, have a fun movie night at home! Grab some blankets, popcorn and candy and enjoy a movie from the comfort of your own sofa.
Read a book. Most of our local libraries are open, but you can also download some great books to your Kindle or other mobile device.
We’ll be taking our own advice here and having a fun Fourth of July staycation. Our Call Center and offices will be closed on Saturday, July 4, for Independence Day. We wish you a happy, safe and fun holiday weekend!
