As you probably know, credit unions are different from regular, for-profit banks — and we think that’s a great thing.
Our Lending is Better
Credit unions are community institutions. We are truly people helping people. Credit unions are not-for-profit organizations. That means we work for you not for corporate stockholders looking to make a profit. Because of that, our lending rates and fees tend to be lower than those of corporate banks. We also tend to be more willing to make exceptions for details that may not be reflected in a more conventional lending formula.
We Help You Learn
Credit unions want to make their communities a better place. Part of that mission includes financial education and transparency. If you need advice about homebuying, making a budget or using credit responsibly, your credit union will be happy to help. In fact, we offer monthly webinars and one-on-one counseling – all free of charge.
We Help You Save
Because credit unions like CommonWealth One are not-for-profit institutions, we pay back the money we make to our members in the form of dividends. Credit unions also offer very competitive rates on savings accounts and CDs. Because they don’t have to siphon off money to pay shareholders, credit can return that money to their investors: You. Just compare the earned interest on a credit union savings account or share certificates to those offered by a for-profit bank.
You’re a Member, Not just a Number
At CommonWealth One, you’re a member of the credit union, not just a customer or a number. As a member, you get a say (a vote) in how the credit union is run.
In fact, we’d like to invite you to our Annual Meeting at 5:30 p.m. this Tuesday, May 19. Due to concerns about COVID-19, this year’s Annual Meeting will be hosted online through WebEx. Members are welcome to register for this meeting here.
The Annual Meeting is an opportunity for members to join CommonWealth One’s board of directors, committees and staff to learn about the progress the credit union has made over the past year, and the exciting things the credit union accomplished during its 75th Anniversary celebration year.
Since 1944, CommonWealth One has been helping people achieve their financial goals and live better lives. The full-service credit union continues growing, serving more people and offering more financial resources.
